  • Yes, I am also facing this issue image is not changing when I am uploading the new image.
    Fix it soon, please

The same issue I am also facing after a new update, even though I have created a new story without copying, the poster image was added but on the web stories page, it is missing.
    Please sort it out soon.

@graajbhar Thanks for your topic. To help look into this for you could you supply the following information:

    1. Your Site Health Information which you can share privately using this form.
    2. The exact steps taken to encounter this issue and what browser you are using.
    3. When trying to save the poster image do you see any console errors?

@graajbhar Just to update you on this. We have been able to replicate this issue and are investigating. You can follow any update on this issue here: https://github.com/GoogleForCreators/web-stories-wp/issues/11980.

Please let me know in the meantime if you have any questions.

@graajbhar We have just released version 1.23.1 of the plugin which addresses the issue with the poster image. Please could you update to the latest version and confirm this fixes the issue for you.

1.23.1 does not seem to fix the issue.

You can update the poster image while in the editor and the new image is shown in the UI. But after you save or submit the story the previous image is still displayed in the dashboard. Opening the story again also displays the old image.

If it helps we use the “Upload a file” choice to select images from our media library. Odd naming choice for that option IMO.

@mgurtzweiler If you could please open a new support topic where we can look into this further for you. When creating this topic could you please share your Site Health Information which you can share privately using this form.

It would also be very helpful if you could provide a recording of this happening for you. You can use a service such as Loom to record this and share the URL here.

@mgurtzweiler Thanks for the update. We have been able to replicate this and are continuing to investigate the issue. We will aim to get another release out as soon as we can. I will provide updates here when I have them.

@mgurtzweiler @graajbhar we have a potential fix that we are looking to release soon but it would be great if you could first test this yourself and let us know if the issue is cleared with this.

You can get this from: https://storage.googleapis.com/web-stories-wp-github-artifacts/refs/pull/12036/merge/web-stories.zip?a8bfd25421047a8f06e3b2aaec041846d51497eb.

Please install and let us know if this works for you. Thanks

    Thanks for this update.

I was able to take an existing story that was created after the 1.23 release, “update” the poster image using the media library, and publish. The Poster “Thumbnail” (or featured image) was correctly set, and the archive page renders as expected.

One issue I found. We have 100s of stories queued up to publish that were created since the 1.23 release that I’ve been sitting on for obvious reasons. They display the correct poster image in the Dashboard, display the correct poster image in the publish preview, however when published the Thumbnail/Featured image is blank… Which means if I were to publish them without going through each and re-selecting the poster image the archive page will appear broken and I’m pretty sure Google discover will ignore these due to a missing poster image.

I was hoping I didn’t have to go back and fix 100s of stories in order to get them published successfully ??

@mgurtzweiler Thanks for confirming that the fix works. This does not fix/affect/modify existing stories so:

Which means if I were to publish them without going through each and re-selecting the poster image the archive page will appear broken

Yes you will have to modify the stories you have waiting if you want to fix this.

and I’m pretty sure Google discover will ignore these due to a missing poster image.

The archive page is irrelevant for Discover. What matters is that the story has a poster set and is valid AMP.

Hope this helps to answer your questions.

What matters is that the story has a poster set and is valid AMP.

    Ahh, that is good news.

So if the <amp-story> tag has a valid poster-portrait-src then we are good to go? The tests I did this morning had the correct image set even know the thumbnail_id was not. I think we can live with this for this existing batch.

    Thank you!

@mgurtzweiler Yes that’s correct. No problem at all glad to hear this.

Hello everyone, thank you very much for your patience and for confirming! Just wanted to quickly update you that we’ve recently released an updated version of the Web Stories plugin (v1.23.2) which includes the fix mentioned above. Please update to the new version and confirm on your end as well. We will mark this topic as resolved but should you encounter any new issues please create a new topic. Thanks.
