The post_id is AUTO_INCREMENT, so if you import id 3434, WordPress will create post_id 3405 for next post. Please notice about some internal post type like attachment, revision, nav item.

    hi hissy

    thanks for your reply.
what if i import 3404 and afterwards import 22..?
well the problem i have is following: a client of mine wants to import a huge batch of posts. later these posts will defenetly change, but this should be managed by import as well. they work with internal catalogue mumbers so i figured i could use this id. but if wordpress may interfere with these id, this would be pain.
is it possible to use their custom id as a custom field and overwrite the post, if this id will be imported again?

    thanks for your help.
if this would be a special service from your side, please contact me with the details, there is defenetly some budget available.
