• I love the new post by email feature and will use it if some kinks get worked out. I use gmail and when I try and post via rich text format the following three lines appear at the top of the post.

    Content-Type: text/html; charset=UTF-8
    Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit
    Content-Disposition: inline

Posting via plain text format removes these lines but forces a fixed line width.

If there are any easy fixes to one of these problems in gmail or wordpress, I’d love to hear it, and I’d love to see them resolved in the next version of wordpress.

  • WP expects email postings to come via a POP3 account. I don’t believe gmail uses POP3.

Oh sorry, I haven’t explained properly.

The email account that the website uses as the post address is not a gmail account. But the email account that I am sending the emails from is a gmail account.

Hence my problem. This whole post by email thing isn’t convenient if I have to switch email services and addresses to use it.

    I understood what you meant:)

If WP requires a POP 3 account, and you’re using gmail (which is essentially webmail), you could always download Mozilla Thunderbird.

Sure he could, but he says that he doesn’t want to switch email services:)

Understood, but then it doesn’t solve his problem. Oh well. ??

The problem is not POP3 … the post is getting through, it just contains extraneous information. I have the same problem posting from gmail. Could be something gmail sends that wp-mail doesn’t filter. Anyone know anyone who understands wp-mail?

Try selection to send your emails in Plain Text. Should be options to do so in all email services.
