Post via email, tags and formatting question

  • If I use the Post via Email option setting in wp-admin/options-writing.php are tags handled the same way they are at wordpress.com? That is, if I include a square-bracket delimited set of tags like:

    [tags birds, pets, hao]

    will they be set for me?

    And will picture attachments come in and get stored in media and be displayed nicely?

    Never mind. I installed and tried it.

    1. Image attachments are not received and included with the post.

    2. Tags are not set.

    In fact, all that was received was the post title. Not even the text of the message was posted!

    Bummer. I will go plugin hunting. Maybe there is something that does this?

    Doing some extra searching, it appears the post via email isn’t even designed to deal with photo attachments. The fact it didn’t even get the text of the email is also disturbing, but the lack of photo attachment handling is a real show-stopper.

    So now it’s a question of competing show-stoppers. The problems I had at wordpress.com, or this problem. They are all problems. ??

    I guess no place is perfect.

    I do want to leave Posterous though, before they disappear.
