• Hello,

I recently updated Max Button to the newest version, now our HR department no longer sees the “Add Button” button when they go to add new jobs/pages. I looked into it and it seems to be a permission setting. Our HR people use a custom role (using the Custom Role Editor plugin), and in the Max Button Settings for “MaxButtons User Level” this role does not appear, so I cannot select this role.

This was working fine prior to me updating, and the fellow who originally put the site together no longer works for the company. So, is there a way for me to get the custom role there as a selection? Much thanks.

    Hi,

It’s curious this worked before since we didn’t change those options forever and they are not dynamic .

You are basically setting on of the four levels in the plugin:

    edit_posts (contributor)
    edit_published_posts (editor)
    manage_categories (manage_categories)
    manage_options (manage_options)

I’d suggest giving your users one of the corresponding roles and setting that.

Currently there is no other way, but I put it on the todo list, since it looks like it can use a little updating.

Are you sure it’s the user role that’s giving issues? The media button (add button) should load when a user has either ‘edit_posts’ or ‘edit_pages’ as permission.

I don’t know either. We don’t have “edit posts” or “edit pages” checked for this role because it gives them more access than we want to. We just want them to edit jobs, which is from a job posting plugin. This all worked before though I don’t know what the update changed :/

Is there some kind of manual edits I can make in the database or some such?

You’re right that it’s not “MaxButtons User Level” I guess thats to use the plugin to create buttons, etc, not to actually use it in the Editor

LIke instead of it using edit_posts or edit_pages to show the icon, can I change/add a custom one?

Btw I reuploaded the old files for the “Maxbuttons” folder to test, and the button came back up.

Interesting. What is the version of the old one you are using?

Can you also let me know which page builder you are using to edit the pages? It could also be an issue with some integration since we updated the icons.

It’s version 7.0 it says in the back-end.

For page builder I have the WPBakery installed. but just using the normal WP backend editor I think.

I should point out when I update it doesn’t work for the HR people (who are a custom group), but it still worked for me as a website Admin.

I did some checking yesterday. I think the issue is that the plugin checks for edit_posts / edit_pages permissions before introducing the icons ( we did some streamlining there ). It seems this doesn’t cover all valid cases, like yours, so in next version that’s removed and that should also fix this issue.

Okay good to hear we figured it out, much thanks.

    Hi,

Can you check if the new version (7.6) works like it used to?
