Post types and single posts per category

  • Hi

    I am trying to display a category single post according to a template. There are lots of possible solutions out there but seem to refer to a year or 2 ago. So I’m wondering whether it is possible to do this by category id and post types. i.e. Is it possible to create a post type that specifically links to a category please?

    Or is there a better way of doing this please?
