    This shortcode doesn’t work any ideas?

    taxonomy refers to the collection from which a term is selected. You have specified that you want to show all lp_course posts, because you didn’t specify any terms to filter the posts by. I’m guessing that “free-courses” is a term rather than a taxonomy. In which case, you probably want something similar to:

    [a-z-listing post-type="lp_course" taxonomy="course-category" terms="free-courses"]

    I found the name of the taxonomy from your site, so the code above could potentially work as-is without you changing anything ??
