Post type video ignores excerpt settings

I had the first post set to be a video post. When I did, it displayed the entire post, even with the excerpt field filled out with 20 words. Had to switch back to the standard post format.

Is there a way to display the video where the featured image is displayed currently, and an excerpt? Our posts will always be a mix of video and standard.
