Post Type Active vs Inactive

I’m troubleshooting why a good % of a certain type of post does not expire reliably. That is to say, they don’t expire but the slider link goes away and the date they were set to expire also vanishes. When I can across this https://tinyurl.com/27nfves8 (screen cap). By default the post type that I am trying to effect is set to inactive. But it works sometimes? What does it mean to “Select whether the PublishPress Future meta box is active for this post type?” I would think if it were inactive it would not expire at all?
