When I try to crop my photos with PTE, it tells me, “These thumbnails have an aspect ratio set: thumbnail.” I go to “Options” and click the back arrow to remove that aspect ratio and I can then crop as I like. But when I “Crop and Save” it tells me, “No thumbnails selected” in a red box. There are checkboxes I can check off: Thumbnails W H C, Thumbnail (true), Medium (false), medium_large (false), Large (false). But when I check them off, it either returns to the thumbnail aspect ratio (i.e., I cannot crop as I like) and/or it tells me again, “No thumbnails selected.” How can I permanently remove this aspect ratio so I can crop as I like?

  • Under Settings → Media, you can find the Thumbnail settings. (Uncheck the crop setting). Alternately, when you see the message about “These thumbnails have an aspect ratio set”, this is just a message. It means that the thumbnail editor is defining the crop aspect ratio to be the same as the thumbnails selected. (Which is probably what you want)

Thank you so much for these clear instructions, I am now able to resize as I like. When I crop them, however, I receive proposed sizes with three icons (arrows, save(?), trashcan). None of these seem to save and post the newly cropped photo in my blog. I apologize for all of the questions, but I’m trying to create a featured slider and the video I’m using to instruct me seems to be out-of-date. It uses the Post Thumbnail Editor, but the video doesn’t match what I’m seeing when I try to use it. Thank you

Easiest thing to do is under the Options click the “Crop and Save” option which will save without asking you to review it. If the buttons aren’t working (arrows are for toggling between the previous thumbnail and the proposed one, disk is for saving, trash can is for deletion), Look in your javascript console for any errors occuring when you click on it.

Did that (crop & save) yesterday and didn’t see any changes, but when I opened up today, I found the new images– thank you! I have read the link you sent me, but I don’t find anything about how to set the featured image slider. I know I have to find a number in the URL (which I can’t find) and then set the number of slider images and insert that number. But I can’t find “Create a Featured Slider” under “Appearance.” Where can I find this? Thank you

Finding the slider post-thumbnail is dependent on your theme or plugin that creates the slider as each one could use a different post-thumbnail name. You could try changing all the post-thumbnails defined into different areas to determine which one it is, you could ask the author of the theme or plugin, or you could inspect the code itself.
