I use post smtp on several sites and on several of them I have been receiving this rather odd error message:

You getting this message because an error detected while delivered your email. For the domain: https://yanhealth.co.za The log to paste when you open a support issue: Temporary local problem – please try later

When I look at the log for the email there is a long transcript that has within this text:

We do not authorize the use of this system to transport unsolicited, 220 and/or bulk e-mail”.

Can anyone throw any light on what is causing this, it is not just one site but and several, however, it does seem to be affecting email delivery as none of my customers have complained (yet)

    Hello

thank you for your reply the plugin is always kept up to date to the latest version, however, excuse my ignorance I don’t understand this question:

What sockets are used on websites that are facing issue?

What is meant by a socket in reference to websites

    Hello @axiom28

In this context, ‘Sockets’ refers to the SMTP providers, which represent the various email services that you can connect with Post SMTP to ensure reliable and efficient email delivery.

Hi OK I understand, sometimes I use the default option, but more often the “Other SMTP” option, in this case it would be the SMTP provider by the host company, all the errors I’ve been receiving are on sites on the same hosting environment. They have recently upgraded their servers and moved all my accounts to the new server, could that be relevant?

    Hello @axiom28

If you’re using ‘Other SMTP’ with a custom host, the issue likely originates from the hosting provider’s end. I recommend reaching out to their support team for a more detailed understanding. Additionally, please note that changing servers could potentially impact your emails if they are hosted on the same server. Also, the default option, uses WordPress default SMTP for mail delievery.

Keep us updated on what you hear back from the host’s support.

    HI

OK thank you I will contact my host, in the meantime could I ask is the default option the better one to use, since it is a default?

    @axiom28

As mentioned earlier the default uses WordPress’s default SMTP, in most cases it faces delay in delivery and often end up in recipient’s spam/junk. That is why most of the users use other SMTP providers for faster and reliable delievery of mails.

We believe this clarifies your question.

Hello, thank you for your message, I do want to ask a question as I have spoken to the host and did some testing of my own.

If I use the default option, it works but the confirmation message comes as a plain text message, now if I use Other SMTP with port 465 as recommended by the host, it doesn’t come through but times out. However if I use port number 587 it works perfectly and I receive a proper html email.

Is there any issue with using 587 as the outgoing port?
What are the advantages of using 465?

    (@axiom28)

Oh I forgot to mention in my last post, when I use the 465 port that is when I get the error message that started this post in the first place.

    Hello @axiom28

Thanks for the swift response. We recommend using 587 port as it is modern choice for most situations due to its flexibility, adherence to current standards, and broad support. Whereas the 465 port might be useful in legacy environments or specific cases where immediate encryption is preferred, but it’s generally considered outdated.

However, we are concerned that if your host recommends 465, it should connect with those settings. Kindly share a screenshot of the Connection tab from the settings and also share the diagnostic test report so that we can better understand it before providing you with an answer.

    Looking forward to your response.
