    Hi,

    I’ve generated a sitemap using Yoast and submitted it to Google webmaster tools. There are 5 sitemaps in total and out of the 5 only 3 submit okay. The “/post-sitemap.xml” has been pending for days and another sitemap for custom post types “/services-sitemap.xml” is also still pending.

    I have no idea how to trouble shoot this as both sitemaps are accesable in the browser and no errors show when tested.

    Any ideas on how to fix this?

    Cheers.

  • Pretty typical. Google takes weeks and sometimes months before it will take a look at your sitemap. They are backed up cataloging the world. Just be patient. Pending means Google knows about it, and its’ in the stack to be cataloged.

    Hi hands_solo!

    You need to submit your sitemap_index.xml only. You do not need to submit each of the sitemaps like post, pages, categories, tags, etc individually.

    Submitting the sitemap to Google is the easy part. Google indexing your site fully is the part that takes time, as salescart mentioned.

    Hi,

    “This XML Sitemap Index file contains 18 sitemaps.”

    However, when I look in the main ftp route I can’t see them?

    Also, it has not updated itself for nearly four months?

    Any ideas would be great

    Hi Rik0399!

    Can you submit your own ticket as your issue may be different?

    However, when I look in the main ftp route I can’t see them?

    The plugin generates the sitemap using the database, but doesn’t create any files on on your web host account file directories.

    Also, it has not updated itself for nearly four months?

    Have you added new content to any of these, or modified the pages? What is the URL to your sitemap?

    Hi Nile,

    Thank you for coming back to me.

    Its strange, some updated, some don’t ?

    Hi Rik0399!

    Looks like you’ve got 21, rather than 18. Are you missing some still?

    Nile, I’m starting a new website https://www.ibankifsccode.in

    there are incorrect canonical meta tags on many pages, for instance on: https://www.ibankifsccode.in/search-by-bank/sbm-bank-mauritius-limited/

    it’s defined as:
    <link rel="canonical" href="https://www.ibankifsccode.in/search-by-bank/" />

    while correct is:
    <link rel="canonical" href=" https://www.ibankifsccode.in/search-by-bank/sbm-bank-mauritius-limited/ " />

    How can I fix these?

    Hi creativetalk212,

    Please start your own thread here in the forums ??

    Hi Rik0399,

    There will be no updates to any sitemap that does not contain new posts than it contained at that time.

    So if your sitemap has post/page sitemap 1, 2, 3, 4, …. only the #4 is likely to be updated because it’s the one getting new posts added to it. When it is filled… you’ll move to #5, and then 4 will not be updated.

    @askkim

    Thanks for that,

    One other thing if I may…

    Would it help if I also include the sitemaps in my robots file?

    Otherwise, presumably I would need to include in googles tools right?

    Reason I ask, is that I’m getting lots of 404’s and cannot get rid of them?

    Many Thanks

    That’s a great question, Rik0399.
