  • I would redirect(301) broken url to new one with plugin or in htaccess file or whatever you prefer.

Thanks for the input Peter. The thing is, the new url works as it is, and the old one still seems to point to it (so old existing links around the web still work — which seems kind of bizarre — so if you click on the old link above, it still works).

And I’m guessing that if I did redirect the old url to the new, I’ll still lose all the social media counts. But I’m not sure about that — would a redirect carry over counts for Likes, Tweets etc?

    Cheers.

I am sorry, I really don’t know much about social media, likes and that kind of staff. Probably you will lose it, test it with test post and you will see.

Thanks Peter. I just tried to manually change the url back to the old version (with the weird %E2%80%99 character code included) and WordPress won’t even accept it — just removes it straight away. So I guess a redirect might be the only option to get the Likes etc back, but I doubt it would work as the old url still links to the new anyway. Strange.

as bonus you can update core WordPress to the latest version ??
