post-new.php not loading – otherwise dashboard works

  • Hi all,

    I am trying to figure out why WP doesn’t let me create new content.
    when I click on create post …/post-new.php appears in the browser but does not load. Nothing happens, no error message either. The dashboard works fine otherwise.
    Tried to disable all plugins as it could have to do with a plugin (duplicate posts) but this did not work. Wondering if it has to do with WP 4.0 or my theme.

    Any other ideas what I should try?
    How can I make sure deleted plugins aren’t still interfering?

    Edit: tried multiple browsers, no difference, EXCEPT after minutes Chrome brought up the site but I could not click in the text field (the headline was editable).
