Ok so to provide a bit of context. I had a bit of an issue with my theme a couple months ago. It seemed like every time I did something in the admin side a new blank favicon image was generated. This resulted in thousands of blank favicons. This sounds like a small issue but it’s caused my post id numbers to be 5 digests long in the 13500-14000 range. Any new pages/post have an id of 13589, 13590 etc…. Everything’s been figured out and the sites been running smoothly. I’ve now split my two sites from a multi-site to two single sites. The main reason for this is to set up a staging section through my host (they don’t support multi-site staging)

I have my sites split, everything is working ok. I have a fresh install for what was my subsite in the old multisite. For peace of mind and for functionality I’m wanting to set up a fresh install for what was the main site.

Now to the problem. I tried the wordpress export/import method but whenever I import all my posts & pages They’re retaining their original post ids 13589, 13590 etc….. I would like to try and reset the ID sequencing to make it a little cleaner and more organized. I only have like 15 pages, I actively keep around 25 posts active on my site, I have 52 podcast posts and a couple other items. So I don’t need my id’s in the 13000-14000K range.

Is this even an issue? Are there any suggestions on how to tackle this? Any plugin to fix the ID’s and items associated with them. Apart from having 5 digit long ID’s, are there any downsides to this? Is it even worth the effort? Looking for advice ?

Is it an issue? Not at all. The ID of posts is only an identifier, and won’t affect any performance or posting at all.

As a note, I’ve got sites that we manage here that have posts ID’s over 300,000, and one that’s gone well over 600,000 – and when it comes down to it, that’s nothing. As a bit of a read, the ID numbers can go up to 4,294,967,295 so a few 1,000 is nothing. ??
