Post-Id access with XMLRPC

Hey, I’m trying to develop a blogging client/feed aggregator and need to programmatically access post IDs so that I can use the XML-RPC protocol to edit posts. The only way I’ve been able to access the IDs so far is if I’m using metaWeblog.getRecentPosts. Using an RSS or Atom feed returns the permalink in the ID field. Is there a better way to go about doing this?
