• I am running the latest version of the Thesis theme.

My Post Format menu has gone missing. How do I bring it back? Not only is my Post Format menu missing but my WP Zemanta plugin cannot load.

I have just deleted all plugins other than the two that came with WP, Akismet and Hello Dolly. My next step would be to start removing all plugins, say five at a time, from my Firefox browser. I would rather have simply deactivated the plugins in WP and the same in Firefox addons, but my IT said it would be better to remove them there, as well.

    Help?

    Thank you in advance.

    Lawrence

  • Hi Lawrence,

When you say your Post Format menu, I’m not quite sure what you mean. If you mean the buttons and boxes above the text area that come up when you are writing posts and pages (known as the Visual Editor or WYSIWYG Editor), check your Visual Editor is not disabled in your profile. To do this, click on your name at the top of the dashboard (after the ‘Howdy!’ greeting) and at towards the top of the page that comes up, make sure the ‘Disable Visual Editor’ box is not ticked.

I suspect you may mean something else though…?

    All the best,

    wp-rory,

    Thanks for trying to help.

The Visual Editor is not disabled. And, yes, it is the buttons and boxes above the text area that are missing when I use Firefox, version 3.0.8, on this particular installation only for this one URL only on this PC only. I can see these buttons and boxes on another URL using Firefox. Using IE8 I can see the buttons and boxes on both URLs, and, at my shop, my IT can see the buttons and boxes on both URLs in Firefox.

I am beside myself. I don’t know what to do. I have removed and reinstalled Firefox while deleting the entries for Firefox in the Program files.

I can think of only one more thing and that is to ask for help in the Thesis theme forum.

    Lawrence,

Are you by any chance using the No-Script plugin in your Firefox browser? If so you may want to disable it, close and re-open Firefox and then try to access your admin area and see if the Visual Editor is back with all of its functions.

No-Script can block a lot of things so that is just something that came to mind.

Yikes, I’m missing the formatting menu also. Using Firefox 3.5.7 on a Mac but Safari doesn’t show the formatting menu either. It’s weird, when the Edit page loads, the formatting menu shows up for second, then disappears and only shows the More and the Kitchen Sink buttons. Clicking More just adds some code to my post. Clicking Kitchen Sink shows the paragraph format menu as a text link. Nothing else.

    Re-uploading /wp-admin didn’t fix anything. Any ideas?

Figured it out. TinyMCE was screwed up. A few files were not uploaded correctly. I just deleted and re-uploaded the entire folder: /wp-includes/js/tinymce and it fixed the issue.
