• Here’s an odd one — One out of 5 sub-categories lists sub-category before main category’s name. So 4 categories out of 5 lists “Main category, sub a (or b,c,d)” but one lists “sub e, Main category” — the sub is BEFORE the main!

All sub categories are set up as sub-categories under the same main category and there is no difference in how each post is ordered into sub-categories.

Here’s the setup for the categories:

    Main category
    – sub a
    – sub b
    – sub c
    – sub d
    – sub e

The default ordering is by category name. There’s not an option to order by hierarchy. Doing so would take a good bit of extra processing. There are other functions that take the trouble to provide hierarchical order, but they are not normally for categories only assigned to a post. It would be feasible with some custom coding to get a post’s categories and tell such a function to only use these categories in a list.
