So the Post by Email function removes too much. Sometimes there are embedded “–” in the email that I wish to forward, especially where images are concerned.

I should mention, my use case is to forward whole emails that are delivered from other parties. This (at least should) allow me to quickly get the information to everyone concerned, for example, when I receive an email using my phone. Unfortunately, the email and often the attachment is removed by Post by Email.

How can I disable signature removal?

You cannot disable signature removal from Post By Email. I would recommend reviewing your emails and removing all “Forwarded” headers before to send them to avoid any issues.

Is there a specific use case where you have to use -- on a single line inside your posts? If so, could you give me an example? We might be able to introduce a new rule for that pattern.

    Thanks!

    Yes, there are two cases.

there is a certain embedded image format that seems to have the signature inside the image format. I’ve deleted the specific emails. Next time they come around I’ll forward it.

The second case is a situation where I’m forwarding an email from a provider and i need to identify the provider … That is, i want the signature line from a forwarded email on the post.

If you could forward me that format that’d be great, thank you! You can use pastebin to share snippets here.

You can also send me that snippet via email, if you prefer.

In such cases, I would recommend that you use a different signature format to avoid triggering Post By Email’s filtering system. A single - would do the trick, for example.

It wouldn’t be something i could control, Jeremy. The signature would be from the email that I receive.

For example, say I send you a current event, and write, “Please forward this to your constituents. Have them contact me directly for any additional information. Signed, — Mark”, then you forward this to your PostbyEmail address.

Anyway, aside from trying to defend a few particular use cases, it seems allowing a custom “remove anything after this line” would be better than any magic signature block embedded in the code, however common or uncommon that magic signature block is.

When forwarding emails, you can also edit the original message you’re forwarding, so you should be able to work around this issue.

Do not hesitate to send me a few examples of the image embedding format you use. You can also post them here so I can take a look.

    Thanks!
