Post being removed from category

I have two categories, I already changed one of them to the default category. I have posted posts under the categories but after a day all the posts will be removed from all the categories, even the default category. I have tried numerous times and every time I place it in a category, the next day it will be uncategorized even thought the default category has been changed. I tried posting new posts directly into the category but had the same result. I tried removing the theme entirely and changed to the wordpress twenty-twenty-three theme but the results were the same. I have ultimate member installed and there is content restrictions on the categories to restrict one category to a specific role and the other to logged in users. Not sure if this could be the cause or not.
