  • Question, we seem to be having a few problems with this plugin. One is that one of our main admin names does not show up on the drop down where you can choose authors. It is just missing off the list.

Another issue is it wont hide the authors. If I click hide nothing happens.

Third issue, is that no matter who we choose as the author it shows who actually posted on the front page. When in the article it seems to work some of the time but on the front page it doesn’t. Our website is here. You will see most of the stories are posted under Malia Zimmerman who is the editor but she is not the one who wrote the articles and even if she chooses the author she still appears. It sometimes shows Hawaii Reporter which is the profile that doesn’t show in the drop down.

Any reason why we are having these issues? Thanks!

    Hi dstolfi,

I took a quick look at your website. I browsed the homepage, a category page and several posts, but I couldn’t find in the source any mention of my plugin (divs or spans with corresponding classes “post_author…”).

Either you changed the code in the plugin or the information about authors is pulled in by another plugin or by the theme itself. In either situation, it is virtually impossible for me to determine what is going on.

Are you 100% sure that my plugin is the one used to bring the author information on your website?

Note: on the news animated slideshow on the homepage, there are different authors, and when I click to view these posts, it seems to display the proper author. Is this correct?

TEST: I did a test, wrote an article as a contributor, then logged in as editor and published it (with and without corrections). All information appeared properly on the test blog. No mention was made of the editor. I also tested the HIDE AUTHOR option for the test article, and it worked properly.

Hope that helps in finding what is going on with your site. My first suggestion is that author info is brought in by something else than my plugin…

    David.

That is really strange because we didn’t change anything and in the area where you can hide the author it had your plugin name in parenthesis. We aren’t using any other plugin for this. I am totally confused now!

From what I see for now, I would say that the AUTHOR info on listing pages and article pages, is brought by your theme… Any tech guy or webmaster can confirm that ?
If my plugin was acting fine, it should add the author info at the bottom of posts (I haven’t seen it on your site yet).

    David.

Hi–this plug in is saving us on shutupfoodies.com — thank you! (We thought we might have to switch themes or do some weird import/export).

But how do you move the author and dateline to the bottom? The documentation says that this can be done in settings, but we don’t see it there. We’d like to have it at the end of posts.

Hm now that I look, it is at the end of posts on individual post pages, but not on our index page. ??

We also haven’t been able to move the author line to the right–I went through the code in “edit plug in” and changed everywhere that it says “left” to “right” but it hasn’t moved…

    Hi Mikki,

on posts or pages, top/bottom control can be done in the admin page dedicated to the plugin (in the Settings column). As for listing pages (like your index I suppose) I don’t think this option has been implemented yet. I can add it to the todo list and see from there.

Regarding the presentation (left right…) you cannot and should not do anything within the plugin code, or else you will lose it all next time we update Post Author. And you will not find any style in that code that relates to the presentation on your site. You should simply write the appropriate CSS in your stylesheet. We gave every tag classes and ids so you can text-align or float anything you want left or right.

    Hope it helps,
    David.

    Hi there-

I was wondering if you might be able to add the ability to have an expanded fields like to choose from? I am currently using the CIMY User Extra Fields plugin (https://www.marcocimmino.net/cimy-wordpress-plugins/cimy-user-extra-fields/) and have a field that I really need to post.

Or do you have any other suggestions? I’ve spent days looking for a good way to do this and I think I’m almost there.

Basically I want to add the person’s country (and make it clickable to view by country). I initially wanted to pull it from their IP but can’t find a way to do that so I thought I’d make it a mandatory field in the registration process.

I think your plugin would be great to post it, but obviously I’d need a modification.

    Any thoughts or suggestions?

    Thanks and best wishes,
    Kristen

    Hi Kristen,

I’ll write a note for the next update, but I can’t promise we’ll be able to include it, as this is very specific. But at least, we’ll give it a try.

    Have a good day.
    David.

    Hi David,

    Fair enough. ??

Do you guys do any custom work

    Thanks and best wishes,
    Kristen

Hi! I was looking for a way to have my main sticky post, that describes a category, to be able to stay at the top of the category post, rather then the added posts being at the top and covering my sticky post. I had downloaded another post author box that was supposed to do that but didn’t have any information how to use it. Does this plugin have the ability for my sticky post to always remain the top post for a category? My website is https://www.reachbeyondthewalls.com. This is an information site for my church. Any help? Thanks, namapm
