Post are not displaying properly

I followed this tutorial for inserting thumbnails into posts: https://justintadlock.com/archives/2007/10/27/wordpress-custom-fields-adding-images-to-posts

I would like for each excerpt to display the content and thumbnail properly, and also to have the meta-date (author, date etc) inline with the top of the thumbnail
