Today I went in to place a Surveymonkey link in my site. I put it in a text widget and it worked OK.
I then went to create a post and found I could edit the title but not the post body. The visual and text tabs were the same. I couldn’t place the cursor. I placed an image and found that the HTML link to the image was there, but in white text, which I could see when highlighting it. It was just the link, not the image, in both visual and text tabs.
I found the same problem with
    – editing existing posts
    – editing new and existing pages

I deleted the widget in case it had affected the editor, logged out and back in but the problem was the same.

What have I done recently, since the last time I posted successfully?
    – updated Akismet and applied it
    – updated a plugin called Huge IT Video Gallery

Wordfence Security detected potential malware in a BackupBuddy file, which I’ve deleted but it has made no difference.

I have two logins, one with Admin rights, one with editor; it’s the same with both.

    Theme: Neutro
    No other themes present

    Installed plugins:
    – Akismet
    – BackupBuddy
    – Change database prefix
    – Huge IT Video Gallery (updated today before I saw this)
    – Sharepress
    – Sucuri Security
    – Wordfence Security
    – WP Google Authenticator

    Site address: https://www.normanlamont.com

Can anyone advise on the cause of this?

    Hi nlamont,

I saw some ppl with similar issues as yours, and all of them has the WP version 4.3.1, try to use version 4.3 and if the error is there too, the only thing i think of is that you modified in someway the editor of the theme and it doesn’t works because of that.
Another thing u can try is to uninstall the theme and install it again.

    Hope it helps

I’ve tried uninstalling the theme. I installed a new theme but the problem in the editor was the same. I’ve gone back to my normal theme.

How easy is it to go back to 4.3? Can I do it directly from WordPress without FTP? If I use FTP is it just a matter of uploading certain folders or do I have to edit wp-config.php or my database?

Update – I’ve deactivated all plugins and it’s made no difference. The problem is the same in Chrome and Firefox. Cleared cache so it’s not that.

Looking at the posts the text is all there, but white (so only visible when highlighted), graphics don’t show in the visual editor, and there is what looks like a two line space at the top of each post before the content begins. That’s the space I was trying unsuccessfully to click in. I can place the cursor below this, in the text area.

Not sure what to do now.

mmmmm, i think if u need to go for 4.3 version it would have to be via FTP.

Another think u can do if u don’t want to downgrade wp is editing all via the files created, accessing to them also via FTP

    Update:
I’ve resolved the problem, although I don’t know how it works.
I reinstalled WordPress, the current version, from FTP, but it made no difference.

Searching other reports of the same problem in the forum, there was a lot of stuff I didn’t understand, but finally found a suggestion that worked: adding this line to the end of wp-config.php

    define(‘CONCATENATE_SCRIPTS’,false);

The post that contained it said you could remove the line after a couple of weeks, which I don’t get at all, but happy that the problem is fixed and I hope this helps anyone else with the problem.
