Following an update to 3.3.1, the toolbar for the Visual Editor is not appearing. My client’s site is running PHP 5.2, using the TwentyTen theme. GoDaddy is the hosting provider.

    I have tried the following:
    – clearing the cache
    – using different browsers (Firefox, Chrome)
    – switching the disable visual editor button in the user profile on and off
    – deactivating all plugins and turning them back on, one at a time
    – activating the TwentyEleven theme

None of these things worked. I would appreciate help on this. Judging by past comments, I probably need to replace a file on the server, I am not sure which one.

    Thanks in advance!

  • Have you tried:

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress.

    – installing & activating

Thanks, esmi. Yes, I tried switching to the TwentyEleven theme and that did not fix the problem. I also run another site (hosted by Dreamhost), so I switched that theme to TwentyTen and the Visual Editor toolbar appeared just fine. So I ruled out any problem with the TwentyTen theme itself.

I will try the other solutions you mentioned. Will re-uploading the wp-admin affect user logins?

    No.

    Thank you, esmi!

Re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes resolved the problem. The Visual Editor toolbar is back.
