Thanks for you plugin, it really is very helpful!

I have one question/suggestion: I would like to have my products sorted either by newest or current deals. When using the second option, the deals are sorted by highest price first. Is it somehow possible to also let the deals be sorted by newest deals first?

    Thanks a lot!

    Hello there,

Thank you for reaching out about our plugin, Extra Product Sorting Options for WooCommerce! I’m happy to assist you with this. ??

Typically you would see these in the order you described, but one caveat is that the plugin can only sort deals of simple products. Any other product type, like variable products, would get mixed in with the normal prices. Are the items you are sorting using something other than a simple product?

    Hello Zack,

    thanks for your answer!

No they are not variable products, but affiliate ones, so the buy link just leads to the affiliate partner. Does that make a difference? They all get sorted from most expensive to least expensive.

    Thanks a lot,

    Hey there @wordpressnetwork ,

Could you provide a screenshot of the product’s details from the WordPress Admin so I can review it? Depending on how these products are setup, it may or may not work so just want to get a better idea of what you are working with. ??

    Hey there again!

Thank you for those screenshots! They appear to be storing the price in the same manner as a simple product. I confirmed this by testing an affiliate product on a test site with Extra Sorting Options installed and it was able to sort them successfully. ??

    Hey Zach,

thanks for testing. The thing is, on my site, the deals do not get sorted by newest but from highest price to lowest. Any idea what I do wrong?

    Hey there Stephan,

Sorry for the confusion! I meant that it is expected to be sorted by the highest price, not newest deal so what you had described on your site would be correct. Again sorry for the confusion!

    Best wishes,
    Zach

    Hi Zach,

ah, I see. Do you have a tip for me how to also sort the deals by “newest”? Some kind of script for example? Where I can have to look?

    Thanks a lot,

    Stephan

    Hi Stephan,

The issue is that within WooCommerce, the date an item went on sale is not tracked. WooCommerce sorts by newest as the default, but is based on the original published date of the product. So without modifying WooCommerce itself, you would not have a reliable way to sort by newest sale. Here is a WooCommerce’s Developer Documentation. I apologize that I do not have better news for you there!

    Hey Zach,

thank you. I checked that out, but that is above my skills unfortunately.

As you said the only date available would be the creation date that would work for me. Maybe you consider this function in the future as kind of a feature request ??

Thanks for your help so far!

    Hey there,

I completely understand. I can definitely pass this along to our product team to review. If anything else comes up, please do not hesitate to create another thread!

    Best,

    Zach
