Possible to keep selected filters when going back?

Does anyone have a good way for keeping the selected filters when going back to the archive view from a single post?

Example:
I’m on the archive page and select 2 filter options, X and Y.
Then I click on one of the search results (opens the single post page).
If I go back in the browser I will see the archive view, but my previous selected filters are gone (all filters cleared).

It would be great if I can keep my selected filters (X and Y in this example) selected when I’m going back.

Possible?
