• I would like to use wordpress as a cms to create sort of a network of websites that start out using sort of boiler plate content, plugins, etc. I would love to be able to create one site (blog) and then make a duplicate of it… sort of like using a template. Obviously this works well with themes, but I want all the default content, plugins, plugin settings, etc to copy. I imagine it like a “duplicate site” button in the super admin tab.

Anyone know how I can do this? Much appreciated!

  • I second this. It would be great to set up a ‘template’ with certain settings enabled and then just duplicate it. I think that would be so awesome, honestly.

I’m totally with you guys on this. I am wanting to use wordpress to create a large content management system (300+ blogs) in a MU configuration and have them all set with the same settings (plugins, settings, posts/pages, etc.) It would be simpler to duplicate then modify, vs. starting from scratch each time and trying to remember all the individual settings.

Any plugins that could help with this? Is there a feature request area we could request this in?

Thanks in advance for your help.

A possible solution would be someone who could add the appropriate code to an actual THEME so that the theme would change all those settings once activated.

I haven’t used him yet, but I know a WP plugin developer who says that he can easily do this. His site is here

I think WP needs to have a way to make certain settings DEFAULT for all sites, but until then, good luck!

Anyone know if there has been any progress made on this? This idea would be so useful for my current project

I’ve been looking for this feature since WPMU, and this is what I’ve found.

    https://premium.wpmudev.org/project/new-blog-template (Premium)

https://wordpress222.wordpress.com/2010/07/09/blog-templates-2-5/ – I’ve used it myself, but it’s outdated now, but it might be a good start if you wanna pay someone to do this.

The WordPress plugins YD Network-wide Options (Yann Dubois) and New Blog Defaults (Deanna Schneider) might offer some help with this ????

I just found this post again after being away for a while. Currently I am using a paid plugin WP Replicator by Ron and/or Andrea. It does a simple duplication and was definitely worth the price. It copies all but two or three different things over but all plugin settings and things that I was looking for with duplicating was included. (I easily duplicated one template 200 times for the application I was using it for.)
Hope this helps those who are interested, and this plugin is significantly cheaper than WPMUDEV’s option.
