Possible to change the slug of events?

I was wondering if there is a possibility to change the auto-generated slug of an event?

i have a lot of repeating events with the same name, like “The 80s Party”

so the first ist ‘the-80s-party’, the second is ‘the-80s-party-2’, the thrid is ‘the-80s-party-3’

i was thinking it would be much better for me, if the slug for the event was generated in a different way, lets say, with the date or something else instead of a number getting bigger …

i found this wp-events-plugin.com/tutorials/creating-custom-permalinks-in-wordpress/ which explains like how to change the permalink but i am not sure how to get from the tutorial to

~/events/2013-08-05-the-80s-party

any suggestions?
