• Hiya,

I’m just thinking that from a security point of view, I’d like to change the URL of the admin login area.

However, simply re-naming the “wp-admin” folder on the server seems to result in the site going down. So is there any other way I can do this? Or does the admin login area always have to remain in the wp-admin folder?

    Thanks

  • I suppose it’s technically possible, but a quick search of a site returns 127 occurrences of the string “wp-admin” which would, presumably, all have to be changed.

Perhaps a future version could define the admin directory in wp-config.php and use that throughout, enabling users to select a directory of their choice.

Additionally, it is secure aready. Yes, everyone knows where it is, but with strong passwords and sensible permission levels, there is no need to worry.

    Might review Hardening_WordPress.
