I used the Menu Editor to add links for social media in the footer at https://www.wheremothandrustdestroy.com

I have links for Facebook, Instagram, and Soundcloud.

the first two automatically have a target of _blank on the <a> tag, which is exactly what I want. THe soundcloud link does not. I have removed and readded it just for kicks to see if maybe i fat fingered or mistyped something. It seems that some of the social media links just don’t want to take _blank…

So to test to see if this was isolated to Soundcloud, I added a YouTube link as well. YouTube does the same thing.

My issue is I cannot figure out what controls the targeting for custom links in the social media menu. I would like for all of the links to open in a new window.

I’m sure this is something very simple that I am overlooking. I’ll keep trying to find the little piece of code that controls this, but if someone has a quick answer, I/m open that that too. Gotta learn somehow.

    Thanks

Are the social icons available as a menu inside of Appearance > Menus?

@anevins sorry for the delay. Yes, it is available there. I don’t have an option for targeting however.

@mykrobinson, I don’t know the answer. It’s not useful for me to post just to say I don’t know the answer so I don’t usually respond, but I did this time because you bumped the thread. I should also highlight that people helping on these forums are volunteers. They answer if they have time and if they know the answer. Bumping doesn’t change that.

Just checking back on this. Andrew, I read and understand your reply above, however with this being 2 months old now, it is likely buried and no one is reading it anymore. Just keeping hope alive ??

I have found an answer for this, and it is so simple, I am quire surprised that no one on the forum nor myself spotted it. Just a matter of knowing where to look, apparently
