Pop Up Message: “Windows January 2021 Critical Update now available
Please update your system to use the browser”

Pop is only on the Home Page, not other pages.

It is also on another addon domain I have too (https://peninsulakelpco.com).

I host with Fastcomet and I have WordFence plugin.

I hadnt updated any plugins in about 6-8 months so maybe thats how malicious scripts got in.

    TESTING:
    1. I have tested it on Internet Edge and Chrome and also on 2 different mobile devices (iphone and Android), they all show they message.
    2. I have updated my laptop to latest software.
    3. I ran Wordfence scan and nothing showed up
    4. I installed Sucuri plugin and ran scan. It showed up some changed files and I deleted them but still getting error.

  • Are you using some modal plugins? Does it happen only when the theme is enabled?

I have quite a few plugins on there. I installed the basic Twenty Twenty-One Theme and the pop up doesn’t appear.

Does that mean its an issue with the Theme (iCoach Theme)? Maybe uniinstall and reinstall it?

I kept the Twenty Twenty One theme on and I deleted the old icoach theme and reinstalled it. Now its gone!! I am so relieved, thank you so much for pointing me in the right direction!

Before removing it, I suggest you to create a full backup of your site, just in case. Also, I suggest you to get in touch with the theme developer. That might be a theme feature. That pop up is made with Swal2 (Sweet Alert). So probably it is an example pop up.

If it was a feature it would probably show up on the latest iCoach theme I installed, you would think.

I checked the iCoach guide and nothing about pop ups. I’ll monitor the site for a while and will reach out to the developer to notify him just in case.

As for the backup, there are backups there just in case.

    Thanks again.

I’m just thinking, its on another site with a different theme installed. So thats weird that it was the theme. I’ll backup the other site and reinstall their theme too.

Just to be sure, contact your hosting tech support and request them to run a malware scan on your site.
