I have 3 WordPress sites hosted by two different hosts all using the Striking Multiflex theme and Wordfence for security. For some reason, the update feature of the theme stopped working. It reports that I have the latest version when there is a new one, even when I do a manual check for updates. (I have Striking 1.2.2, and 1.2.3 has been on the update api more than a week.) This always worked before. I tried disabling all plugins, but this had no effect. The Striking team, who are very skilled, said it might be some interaction with Wordfence even if I disable the plugin because of how Wordfence must embed into WordPress. Has this come up? Is there anything I can do to test in some way or try something that might fix the issue? Thanks.

I don’t think we have had any reports of this issue. Wordfence doesn’t leave any code working when it is deactivated, but it’s possible if something at your host has changed, it could prevent the .htaccess from being rewritten when it should be. (.htaccess is only normally used if Falcon caching is enabled.) You can check .htaccess to see if there is anything left that shouldn’t be there after deactivating Wordfence.

If you want to confirm for sure that it isn’t Wordfence, you could try temporarily uninstalling Wordfence completely to see if it works after that — you would have to turn on the option “Delete Wordfence tables and data on deactivation” near the bottom of the Wordfence Options page, to do a complete uninstallation. (Before doing this, if you want to keep all of your settings, you could use the Export button at the bottom of the Options page first, and save the token — then import the settings after reinstalling. There is currently a limit on the number of manually blocked IP addresses, but other settings should all come back.)

Thanks for your response. There is nothing in my .htaccess file that appears to be from Wordfence. As I was playing around with this, one of my sites found the update link. I still cannot get the others to do so. Perhaps it is some kind of timing issue. Anyway, not likely Wordfence it seems. Thanks again. Your plugin is one I really trust to keep hackers away.

Ok, great — hopefully the rest will update soon too, then. If you do happen to find any reason for the delay in updating, just let us know. Thanks for the feedback, also!
