I have version 0.9.7.3, installed a few days ago. Until then, SendPress worked well and I was very happy with it.

All of a sudden I get this message and cannot send a single newsletter/email via SendPress. I have always sent from my website https://www.servethecitygeneva.ch, not gmail, and this has been fine until now. I have tried installing 2 different plugins that allow me to input my own choice of SMTP port, and tried entering 2525 each time. This removes the error message in my title, but hangs when sending, and still doesn’t send anything.

My ISP hasn’t changed anything recently.

Gmail is not ideal for me because I have to send 800 emails at a time and Gmail has a 500 a day limit.

If this is not addressed, I have to say a sad farewell to SendPress.

I’m trying to imagine what might be causing that. It might be helpful if you could provide the following information as described in this knowledgebase article.

    https://sendpress.com/support/knowledgebase/what-information-should-i-provide-in-a-support-ticket/

It may also be helpful for you to take a look at this knowledge base article. It has some basic troubleshooting for e-mail sending as well as instructions for how to debug the error message that your server may be having. If there is any debug info when trying that, please include it here in the forum.

    https://sendpress.com/support/knowledgebase/troubleshooting-sending-email/

Lastly, you should not be sending through port 2525. Port 25 is the standard e-mail port. Additionally, plug-ins that allow you to enter your own SMTP port or server do not all work correctly and could cause you more problems than they could solve.

Share that information with us from those two articles and we will see if there’s anything we can do to help.

Please note that the MailPro plugin is one of the things I tried out AFTER i had this problem with the ports, and in fact i am not using it but forgot to deactivate it. installing it did not however change the behaviour of my SendPress.

doug, you second suggestion – re: the article at https://sendpress.com/support/knowledgebase/troubleshooting-sending-email/,

i had already read that before writing to this forum. there are 3 suggestions:

the first is try using Send Test Email, which i had already done immediately on discovering my sending problem, and got exactly the same dialog (Debug Info) saying the 3 ports were blocked and the mail could not be instantiated.

the second suggestion starts off “If all the appropriate ports are open …” so does not fit my case. the third is about spam folders – and i’m not that much of a novice! also, in my case, the mail does not leave the send queue at all.

p.s. the only reason i tried port 2525 was after trawling around on forums for several days, and finding a blocked port 25 problem dating back a few years, where it was suggested to use 2525 because some ISPs block 25. obviously it’s pointless for me to try 465 and 567 as they are blocked too.

okay – i think i’ve found it: my lousy ISP relies on Swisscom services and they have blocked 25. not only did i know that already, but it was my ISP who said change to 587 – which i confused with 567, which is gmail, which i didn’t want.

now i have put my SMTP port as 587 in the WordPress Mail settings, with SMTP authentication, and have been able to send one message via SP!

sorry to bother you – but maybe someone else from Switzerland will suddenly have this problem too.
