• I am struggling with this. I have the theme Illustratr. All permalinks are working except “portfolio”. When i access that page I get “page not found”. When I change the permalink structure to standard it works fine.

I tried to change themes with no success.

If I change the permalink to “portfolio2” it works fine.

I am running nginx and php-fpm and my site.conf file is very standard and works fine on all WP sites. All other sites work fine but not the “portfolio” permalink.

    ##update##
I created the portfolio in a new page (using Foo Gallery) and called it “test”. No problem. WP will not let me call any page “portfolio”. Is this a protected title?

  • Hi asle,

Sorry to hear that you are facing a problem. The slug “portfolio” is not reserved by WordPress. However, with Illustratr theme, you must be using Jetpack plugin. Jetpack’s “Custom Content Types” module registers a Portfolio custom post type with the slug “portfolio”. If you have that module activated, then due to this you are not able to create a page with same name as the slug of custom post type is conflicting with the slug of ‘Portfolio’ page.

So you either need to deactivate that module if not needed or change the Portfolio page’s slug to something else – like “work-gallery”. Please note you can keep the title of page to be “Portfolio” and just change the slug. I hope this helps.

    Thanks Prasad!
I investigated and found out this myself. So I just changed the permalink and it works fine. The “/portfolio/” permalink shows the gallery collections. I can live with that.

    Hi Prasad,

I’m using the Virtue theme and it won’t show the stuff I create under ‘Portfolio’. I get a page not found message.

I’d like to try editing the Portfolio permalink and see if ti’ll work. How do I change the Portfolio slug? Example, in the link dallydiscovers.com/portfolio/faces, I can only edit ‘faces’, not /portfolio/

    Thanks!

    Hi Prasad,

I was able to find a solution – downloaded the Custom Permalink plugin and edited the permalink of my portfolio posts. It worked. Hooray!!!

Prasad, the link https://dallydiscovers.com/portfolio/ shows a title “Projects” so it seems your theme has reserved the “/porfolio/” permalink for projects. I tried the theme but could not get portfolios to work. Strange it works in the demo.

Thanks @dallydd! I was also looking for a solution because I was looking to use that theme.
