Hello! I love this theme. It came out right as I was starting to be serious about building my artist’s portfolio. I’ve always used Anders Noren’s themes for all my sites. Even when I try to update for different needs I tend up to come right back. My only issue right now is that I want a portfolio *and* a blog separately. I’m using the WordPress native portfolio option in settings> writing; however, I also want my portfolio as my homepage. The default archive page is perfect, but when I make a static Page to point the homepage settings to, in the page attributes there’s no Portfolio Page or archive template I can select for the page. How might I make one in my files and/or can I suggest an update that supports the WordPress portfolio option?

Another detail, I really like the option to add Intro Text to the blog page and I’m wondering if there’s a way to add the same thing (different content) to the portfolio page.

    Hi @gracehough,

    Glad you like it!

WordPress doesn’t have a portfolio post type built-in, so I’m assuming you mean the Jetpack portfolio post type? If that’s the case, I’m afraid there doesn’t seem to be a way to set the portfolio archive to display on the front page – at least not with the built-in Jetpack settings. You can add the [portfolio] shortcode to the content of a page and set that page to be the front page, but the page won’t have the portfolio archive layout (with the masonry grid). It might be something I could add a workaround for in a future version.

As for your second question, that’s also something I might add in a future version, but I can’t give a time estimate.

    Hi @gracehough,

I’ve taken a look at what it would require to add the ability to set the Jetpack Portfolio archive page as the front page of a site, and I’m afraid it would require too much custom code to be worth it. It seems like something that Jetpack should add support for out of the box though, so you could make a feature request either in the Jetpack support forums or on the Jetpack GitHub project.

I’ll add the option for a separate archive title on the Jetpack archive page in the next version of Eksell.

I received multiple feature requests for a Portfolio page template that can be set as the front page, so I reconsidered and decided to include one in version 1.3.0 of Eksell. It’s available as an update now.

Hi Anders! Thank you so much for the update! The Portfolio Page Template really helps a lot. And thank you so much for the Portfolio Intro Text! Godsend. However, it isn’t showing up as the replacement title on my basic portfolio page, even after I set the correct template to a page with “portfolio” as the slug. It works on other pages so for now, I’m assuming it’s because Jetpack isn’t letting anything else touch the portfolio slug and it’s a problem with them and not your update. For now, my workaround is to make an “art” page and give it the portfolio template.
Thank you for being such an active developer. Keep up the good work. You have some banger themes that are excellent quality. I have yet to find any theme I’m willing to pay for that competes with any of yours and as a student with no stable income at the moment, it means a lot that you make these for free.

    Hi @gracehough,

    Happy to hear it!

Correct, when the slug of the page is the same as the slug of the projects post type (portfolio), WordPress will display the portfolio archive instead of the portfolio page template. However, the “Portfolio Intro Text” you enter at Customizer → Theme Options → Archive Pages will always be displayed, on both the portfolio page template and the portfolio archive, so you can use that field instead.
