Hey everyone. New guy here. I’m hoping I can find some help with a rather perplexing issue I have. Let me explain the situation.

The company I work for is looking into Knowledge Base solutions and I have been throwing around the idea of using WordPress as a solution. It’s free, easy to install and easy to maintain. I’ve got the basic foundation for the KB setup and have a pretty good idea of where I want to take it from here.

    My problem is this:

Because of the nature of work that I do, we do have select clients who access our current KB on a regular basis. One of the problems I am running into is how do I give external users access to an internally hosted WP KB?

If we decide to go with WP as our KB solution, it will be hosted internally and I have NO control over that. It’s fine for our internal users because all they will have to do is login with their credentials that we have setup for them in WP. BUT…for our users and clients who are outside of the network, this is proving to be more difficult.

Oh and our clients would prefer NOT to use a VPN…

So my question is this…Can I setup a public facing login page that redirects to our internal WP KB? Or is there some sort of plugin that I can install that will magically make all of this happen for me?

    Thanks

You can quite easily restrict content by whether the user is logged in or not, simply by marking your KB articles/pages as Private. This is in the upper right area of the page/post editing screen – look for an eye icon and the word “Visibility.”

Oh wait, I’m reading more carefully now.

My first thought is to look for a plugin.

    Try one of these:

    Hi Susan,

I already have quite a few plug-ins installed to limit content visibility by role and that part is taken care of. My issue is that I need to give external users access to an internal resource.

Think of it like setting up a wp site on your computer and using localhost as the point of destination for EVERY ONE. How would I go about in giving someone external access to a wp site, on localhost.

I wish I could post a picture of what I am talking about…
