Popup Maker cache location

    I have noticed, that since some time Popup Maker started to save cache assets and debug log in ‘wp-content/uploads’ folder. However at the end of August 2024 it had its own folder ‘pum’ in the ‘uploads’ (last modification time of the files there is 31st august). Moreover, I saw in the official docs that ‘wp-content/uploads/pum’ is the right place to save the assets cache (https://docs.wppopupmaker.com/article/521-popup-maker-detected-an-issue-with-your-file-system).
    Is it something with my filesystem permissions, bug, or it is intentional behaviour?
    If this was intentional, then I would be happy if Popup Maker used its own directory, like it was before..

    Hi @bibelwort,

    The assets should still be in the “pum” folder of your Uploads directory.

    Could you check if ?Popup Maker asset caching is on?

    Go to?Popup Maker?>?Settings?>?Misc?and uncheck?Disable asset caching.

    Hi, Kim!

    I have checked the ‘Site Health’ tool on any ‘File Permission’ issues – there are no any, all directories are writable including uploads-folder.

    I tried to disable ‘asset caching’ option and delete manually leftover css and js files in ‘uploads’ related with the Popup Maker (according the comments in the head of these files). Then I enable caching back and reload the site page. Popup maker again have created css and js files in ‘uploads’ with strange names like: 7ae3407bf106c489431ffff591fad587.js and d3a6eb57985493baa366faa068cd22ff.css, while the ‘uploads/pum’ directory left empty.
    Using dev tools in my Edge browser I made sured that browser get these cached versions of js and css files.

    Hello again, Kim!

    I have just realized that this behaviour is due to ‘Try to bypass ad blockers‘ option. If it is disabled, the cache files have stored in ‘uploads/pum’ and have meaningfull names ‘pum-site-scripts.js’ and ‘pum-site-styles.css’. But if it is enabled then Popup Maker stores them in ‘uploads’ directory with obfuscated names.

    Actually, I am fine with that, as soon as I now understand the reason.

    Thanks for the update!

    The ‘Try to bypass ad blockers‘ option is mainly useful for users that use browsers with builtin adblockers like Brave, as there are instances where their popups are getting blocked.

    If this is not needed, you’re free to turn this option off.
