Popup Gallery Slideshow from text link or thumbnail

I am looking for a way to popup a gallery slideshow from a text link or thumbnail, preferably in a lightbox. I need to list quite a few galleries on a page and don’t want load all the images into that page. Is there a plugin that can achieve this?

I had hoped NextGen would have a way to popup the gallery into a lightbox when you click on the gallery thumbnail instead of loading a page with the gallery. Does anyone know of a way you could redirect the output to a lightb0x instead of a new page?
