Popular posts/New posts showing by category

  • Hi,

    I was wondering: is there a way to show the popular posts in the sidebar (widget) by category? What I mean is something like: I’m in the “Music” category, it will show just posts from that, and so on.

    Same question, but regarding the new posts.

    This is a thing that I’ve thought about too, but I haven’t figured out a good way to build it yet.

    Either:
    – I need to build an option in the widget to display posts from the current category, so that it auto-checks which category it is in, if it is shown on a specific category page.
    – Or I need to build some type of sidebar widget area functionality so that you can create widget areas for each separate category archive. I think the other option is a simpler way to go.

    Currently however, this can’t be done with default functionality. The closest you can get right now is showing most popular but from all categories.

    Not sure when or if I’ll get time to build this anytime soon, but thanks for the feedback – I have saved it to a list of good & useful ideas! It’s a feature I’d like to have as well if I used the theme.
