    Hello

I have built a new site which uses Jetpack to gather traffic data, it uses a ‘Popular Posts’ widget in the sidebar populated by connected Jetpack stats on wordpress.com. I have done this more than 20 times before on other websites. That’s a lot. However, on my latest site, despite the exact same set of plug-ins and php code, the populated stories are not the ‘most read’ from Jetpack data as per the configuration. They are random and not capped at 3 as per the plug-in but show 10! I have triple checked the code, it’s identical to other websites. I have reconnected to Jetpack three times.

I have reverted to using the widget ‘Top Posts and Pages (Jetpack)’ and this DOES show the correct popular stories BUT it shows one number less than I my settings. i.e. if I set it to show 6 it shows 5. If I set it to 7 it shows 6.

I am convinced that there is something odd about the site connection with Jetpack.

Any ideas for other tests I can process?

    Hi Matt,

I don’t see any issues with the Jetpack connection, however, it looks like you’re using an outdated version of both Jetpack (7.1.2) and WordPress (4.9.15). Could you please update those and check if that makes any difference?

Hmmm OK thanks, it won’t be the Jetpack or WP versions, they’re the same as I have running in 20 other locations (the theme is not Gutenberg compatible yet even with the classic editor). Very odd. Guess I’ll reach out to the theme builder to see if they’ve had similar bugs reported.

You could try to see if it’s a plugin or theme conflict. For that, you’ll want to disable all plugins, and switch to the default Twenty Twenty theme. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of the problem.

To make it easier, you can install Health Check. On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to disable all plugins and change the theme for you, while you’re still logged in, without affecting normal visitors to your site.
