• Hi,

I am no longer able to use that pop-up box where you highlight your text, click the “link” button, and then type in your link. When I follow these instructions, I am getting a blank pop-up box. I would presume it’s something to do with my anti-virus software, but nothing I have tried is working. Can someone help?

Here’s how I have so far troubleshooted (is that a word?):

1 – Using Kaspersky AntiVirus software, IE 8.0 on a PC
    2 – removed pop-up blocker
3 – cleared cookies and cache
4 – removed “anti banner” setting in Kaspersky

    Any other ideas?

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-related problems?

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin? Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

Hi – it’s not a plugin, though? It’s on the main “kitchen sink” when I write a post. I also had this problem BEFORE converting to a hosted blog, so I’m thinking it’s a security setting issue, I just have no idea what else to try…

I didn’t say it was a plugin. However, other plugins can interfere. As can your theme. The advice I gave above is basic WordPress troubleshooting.

gotcha, ok. I just have so many plugins I’d prefer not to redo them all…and since the linking was not working even BEFORE I added plugins, I thought the two were unrelated.

Also, neglected to say – I only have this issue on one PC – if I access the blog from any other computer, the link pop-up box works just fine. That’s why I’m thinking it’s specific to a security setting on this PC?

If it’s local machine specific, then, yes, you need to investigate the settings on that PC.

Cool – would you (or anyone else out there?) have any suggestions on what settings, apart from ones I already tried, I could look into?
