Pop Up on Click

Anybody know how I can insert a pop up window that’s only activated on the click of a link or image? Like what I have on this website for the “Currency Converter” buttons:

It opens a new window that’s a specific size. This uses javascript. I tried putting the same code into my wordpress site but it didn’t work.
