• Odd behaviour from the pop up form on my site – it fades in underneath rather than on top of my other website elements. Also when the homepage first loads you can see the pop up form load at the left of the screen and then disappear before fading back in to the centre of the screen.

    Video showing the behaviour: https://cln.sh/pBYgj734

I’ve cleared cache and checked for conflicts (originally had email octopus still active) but nothing helps.

Feels like I’m missing something obvious but I’ve run out of ideas.

    Appreciate any help.

    Hi @laconicsky,

Thanks very much for the screenshot and especially the video, it’s very helpful to see what’s going on.

I ran several tests with fade-in home page pop ups on my test site and I was not able to see the problem. The pop-ups I created always loaded on top of other content. This is hopeful as it does seem to suggest it is not a bug.

I had a look at your site and while the pop up seems to be disabled at this time, I’m wondering if there is some kind of theme issue here and your z-index values for various parts of your site.

I’m seeing several z-index settings on your home page and these would control the overlay order for various components. For example, there’s an AddToAny box on your home page with z-index value of 99999999, plus other embedded iFrames with their own high z-index values, and overlaid images as well that are alternating the usual overlay flow.

I know you mentioned you’d done a conflict test, but did that test involve changing your theme to a default them such as Storefront? If not, can you try that, and can you also try overlaying the pop-up on a more basic page? You can set the pop-up to appear on “all pages” and then create a very simple page with just some sample text on it, and test it there, to make sure the pop-up overlays properly.

If so, then most likely you are looking at a conflict between either your theme in general, or specific embedded elements on your home page.

Thank you so much for your reply and for the time you spent looking at this.

You’re right – on a simple page (for example my contact page) the pop up works correctly.

I’ve tried playing around with the z-index values of elements on my homepage but I’m unable to get a set up that fixes this issue without causing other unacceptable consequences.

Could you suggest a workaround? Do you support other form providers that would allow me to set up a pop up form that automatically sends the email addresses to MailPoet?

    Hi again @laconicsky,

Sorry to hear you were not able to find a good z-index balance for the fade-in popup, and looking at your site (which is lovely) I would guess that moving to a new theme with different embedded elements is not really the right solution here.

From the MailPoet side, the best thing is probably to move away from a pop-up and to a static sign-up form instead, i.e. embedded somewhere on your home page and perhaps in your footer. You could also continue to use the pop-up on all pages other than the home page, if other simpler pages work (this is an option on the pop-up form).

If you’d like to keep the popup idea and are interested in other plugins that offer that feature that also integrate with MailPoet, you can find the list of known integrations here:
    https://kb.mailpoet.com/article/198-forms-themes-plugins-that-work-with-mailpoet

Each of these services / plugins provide MailPoet sign-up support directly, so if you have additional questions about how any of them work or run into trouble, you’d reach out to the developers of those plugins directly for help with that.

    Thanks for your reply.

I’ll take a look at some of those other options shortly.
