• Despite it’s wild popularity, this plugin is missing some very basic features. The first of which is the ability to select photos from the WordPress media library.

Strangely te plugin author has chosen to essential recreate the media library making photos uploaded to galleries not easily accessible elsewhere on the site, and vise versa.

This is a very confusing decision, given that the plugins custom media insertion method does not offer any exceptionally unique features that could not have been accomplished with the standard media library. The plugins site and positive reviews praise the ability to upload a .zip file as ease of use, when the standard media library would allow you to bulk import pictures all the same, and not have them constrained to this plugin.

  • False you have option of import folder to your wordpress images directory anyways it makes no difference 1 or the other works fine

@ccloud – I actually think your comment on NextGEN – Media library integration is relevant. NextGEN does keep it’s images separate from the media library, which has some advantages and some drawbacks. We are actually releasing a nicer interface for importing images directly from the media library to NextGEN. We’re hoping that will be out in one of the next major releases.

I guess my main question might be: given everything that NextGEN does and does well, do you really think that limited media library integration warrants a one-star review? What would you rate NGG if it did everything it current does, but also had fuller media library integration?

Regardless, thanks for taking the time to leave some thoughtful feedback, both for us and for other users. (Erick from Photocrati/NextGEN).

I think as long as they are optimized preferably with https://tinypng.com/
and having backup originals turned off it is ok as is for now.

But definitely would be great with full integration

@ccloud – just following up once more to see if you have additional thoughts on this.

@bmlawncare – thanks again for the additional feedback.
