I moved from a VPS to Shared hosting because I didn’t have the time for the constant server maintenance and did notice a bit of a speed dip initially which is why I started looking into all the performance boosting plugins.
On the VPS everything was loading really quickly but there was a memory leak “somewhere” that occasionally caused problems, but I couldn’t locate it.
In regards to the performance boosting/checking things I have on my site I have
WP Super Cache (I had bad experience with W3 Total Cache before a year or two ago but it caused my site to go down and the support guys didn’t help.. it might be different now.. would you recomend the switch?)
Autoptimize
BJ Lazy Load
Remove Query Strings From Static Resources
Speed Booster Pack
WP Performance Score Booster
I do have Jetpack installed and Photon turned on too..
Everything was fine and getting better but my “scores” were still not the best.
Installing the “Speed Booster Pack” did improve my scores, but broke Jetpacks Related posts and the Nivo Slider on the front page (although o be fair I think I have decided I prefer my site without the slider now)
My speed was getting better and better, I got load times to 2-4 seconds
for some reason the load times have gone up to 7+ seconds now, but the scores are still “good”
I use GTMetrix for checking speeds presently.
I tell ya, I miss my VPS now lol. I just don’t have the time or linux knowledge to keep everything working properly.
I’m not even much of a web dev… this is a hobby/sideline thing.. I am an SQL/VbA programmer in my day job.. just want something simple now.
