Polylang Problem Switching Languages

Our website had been using xili-language plugin to allow for multi-lingual use until this year (French and English), when that plugin was abandoned. I just installed Polylang, and went through every page on our website assigning a language and associating it with its translation page (example: the page “Organisme” was assigned French as a default, and then I found the “Organization” page, assigned it to English, and listed “Organisme” as the French translation). Now, when I am navigating on the website, if I hit the “English” button on the language switcher, it doesn’t lead me to the English translation of the page, it brings me to the English home page. In contrast, if I am navigating in English and hit the “French” button, it does bring me to the correct French translation page. I have tried editing the French pages to make sure that the translation is properly labelled, and I made new menus. How can I arrange it so that I can toggle easily between French and English pages?
