• Hello

    I have a wp-website and I am using Sydney theme with Polylang.

    I have some problems after Wp and Polylang plugin update to the latest version.

    I have a multilanguage page and a Hero slider with 4 sliders.
    I have had all my slider text and button text translated, but now it shows me the primary language on all sliders when I change to different language, the translations on my page view do not show up (there are visible translated texts for each slider in Languages/String translations). And also when I go to String translation I can not check or uncheck the box next to the translation group, except for the “Cookie Notice” group.

    I have 4 string Groups in my filters (Languages/String translations):
    – wordpress-seo
    – sydney
    – WordPress
    – Cookie Notice

    I had, and still have, all translations for all groups, but after the latest Sydney and Wp update, I can not check or uncheck the box next to the translation group, except for the “Cookie Notice” group.

    Thank you for your time & your help,
    Best regards

  • I have some problems after Wp and Polylang plugin update to the latest version.

    Please try switching your Polylang plugin to the previous version using WP Rollback plugin. Clear any cache and run your test. Let me know whether the issue remains or not.

    I tried that, but when rolling back up to 2.7, nothing changed. When I got to rolling back and activating version 2.7, another Error message showed and I can not enter my dashboard.

    Error messagen:

    Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Class 'PLL_Wizard' not found in /home/.../public_html/wp-content/plugins/polylang/admin/admin-base.php:59 Stack trace: #0 /home/.../public_html/wp-content/plugins/polylang/admin/admin.php(61): PLL_Admin_Base->init() #1 /home/.../public_html/wp-content/plugins/polylang/include/class-polylang.php(290): PLL_Admin->init() #2 /home/.../public_html/wp-includes/class-wp-hook.php(307): Polylang->init('') #3 /home/.../public_html/wp-includes/class-wp-hook.php(331): WP_Hook->apply_filters(NULL, Array) #4 /home/.../public_html/wp-includes/plugin.php(474): WP_Hook->do_action(Array) #5 /home/.../public_html/wp-settings.php(450): do_action('plugins_loaded') #6 /home/.../public_html/wp-config.php(73): require_once('/home/.../...') #7 /home/.../public_html/wp-load.php(50): require_once('/home/.../...') #8 /home/.../public_html/wp-admin/admin.php(34): require_once('/home/.../...') #9 /home/.../public_html/wp-admin/index.php(10): require_once in /home/.../public_html/wp-content/plugins/polylang/admin/admin-base.php on line 59

    and I can not get back to Resume my backup made prior the testing.

    The site shows in live preview, but I just can not aces my Dashboard, the Error message shows up.

    I managed to Update my site via cPanel phpMyAdmin, so I can access my dashboard back again.

    Thank you for your time & your help,

    That looks like the problem occurs while the process is running. Perhaps there was particular incompatibility issue with the plugin or anything else like WordPress version. Please check whether your site meets these requirements or not before reporting this issue to the plugin’s author.

    Can you confirm if the translation works as expected after downgrading?

    (@managerslo)

    After downgrading, the translation is not working, and when I got down to version 2.7, the site only showed the above mentioned message.

    I upgraded php version from 7.1.33 to the newest 8.1.4 in my cPanel, and the hero slider still does not translate the slider text and the button text. Everything else is translated, menu etc.

    The site is a https.

    And also my site has

    “You are running WordPress 5.9.2 | PHP 8.1.4 | LiteSpeed | MySQL 10.5.15-MariaDB-log”

    The header text and button text sill do not translate. I tried to disable the ElementorPlus plugin but the issue is the same.

    Hi,

    Thank you for updating.

    My guess you’re running a child theme that overrides particular part of main theme’s files. Or, it could be one of your active plugins does so.

    Please confirm whether you’re running a child theme or not. If not, please run private troubleshooting with the help of Health Check plugin, so you can disable all plugins (that is only affected to you, site admin, while being logged in) to rule out plugin specific issue.

    Hi

    Thank you Kharis.

    Yes, I am running Sydney Child theme via Child Theme configurator plugin.

    I am using plugins as follows:
    – 404page – your smart custom 404 error page
    – Child Theme Configurator
    – Cookie Notice & Compliance for GDPR / CCPA
    – Custom Fonts
    – Elementor
    – Elements Plus!
    – Erident Custom Login and Dashboard
    – Essential Addons for Elementor
    – Fast Velocity Minify
    – MouseWheel Smooth Scroll
    – Polylang
    – Smush
    – UpdraftPlus – Backup/Restore
    – WP Fastest Cache
    – WPFront Scroll Top
    – WPS Hide Login
    – Yoast SEO

    I tried to disable all plugins nothing happened, nothing changed. I deactivated the Elementor plugin, now my site is broken and it says “There has been a critical error on this website. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.” I can not access my dashboard, nor see my site in live, just this message.

    I activated the Elementor plugin back via phpMyAdmin in cPanel and now I can access my site dashboard again and the site is working in live view, but the hero slider text and button text translations problem is still there.

    Also, I backed down the Polylang plugin to 2.7 version (the newest is 3.1.4), and the site also broke, showing white screen with the same message “There has been a critical error on this website. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.”

    I updated my Polylang plugin back to version 3.1.4. via cPanel, and the site is back live, but with the same issue not resolved.

    In Languages/String translations I can change the bulk action only for “Cookie notice” text, but for “sydney”, “WordPress” and “wordpres-seo” the bulk actions box can not be changed nor checked/unchecked.

    Thank you & Best regards,
    BR

    Looking at my Appearance/Theme editor/Sydney Child/ Theme Files list, I have:

    – Stylesheet; style.css
    – Theme functions; functions.php
    – style.ctcbackup.css
    – 404 Template, 404.php
    – content.php
    – Theme footer; footer.php
    – Theme header; header.php
    – Posts page; home.php
    – Main Index Template; index.php
    – Single Page; page.php
    – fonts

    I do not know if maybe the Sydney Child Theme/Sydney Main Theme/Plugins and files/codes overwriting causing the problem is in one of these files.

    Thank you & Best regards,
    BR

    I also looked at my Child Theme / Theme File Editor and in Theme Files in Theme Functions/functions.php and there is this code:

    <?php
    // Exit if accessed directly
    if ( !defined( 'ABSPATH' ) ) exit;

    // BEGIN ENQUEUE PARENT ACTION
    // AUTO GENERATED - Do not modify or remove comment markers above or below:

    if ( !function_exists( 'chld_thm_cfg_parent_css' ) ):
        function chld_thm_cfg_parent_css() {
            wp_enqueue_style( 'chld_thm_cfg_parent', trailingslashit( get_template_directory_uri() ) . 'style.css', array( 'sydney-bootstrap' ) );
        }
    endif;
    add_action( 'wp_enqueue_scripts', 'chld_thm_cfg_parent_css', 10 );

    // END ENQUEUE PARENT ACTION

    Should I add, change something?

    [tested the same issue on another Sydney site of mine]

    I tried to install polylang plugin to another of my Sydney (Sydney child theme) pages, and in the String translations I had wordpress-seo and WordPress, but I could not check/uncheck the String box.

    I also tried to change the theme from Sydney Child to Twenty Twenty-One, Twenty Twenty-Two and Sydney, and the problem was the same.

    I tried to downgrade WordPress version to 4.9.8. and the page broke down.

    I uploaded the newer Wp version via cPanel, and than started to activate every single Plugin individually. There was an error with activating 404-plugin, but after deleting it, the problem with String not translating was still there.

    Thank you & Best regards,
    BR

    I found this on google search…

    “The checkbox is greyed for the strings generated by the Polylang functions, or wpml-config.xml files (which may be provided by your theme or plugins). These strings are automatically removed from the list when the corresponding plugin or theme is deactivated (although the translations are kept as explained above).”

    I did not deactivate the theme nor the plugins.

    Hi,

    I did another testing with standard WordPress installation running Sydney theme (without a child theme). And the Polylang’s translation on the main slider text works fine.

    Have you tried disabling your child theme for checking purpose?

    Thread Starter managerslo

    (@managerslo)

    Thank you Kharis

    I changed from Child theme to activating main Sydney theme, but nothing changed, the header slider text is still only in the primary language.
