The topic you are referring is very old and I finally decided to add the javascript when using pll_the_languages() too. The flexibility I was looking for was not worth the users in trouble with this. So this topic is obsolete and you don’t need to write any more code than the call to pll_the_languages() itself.

The dropdown option displays an html <select> as the dropdown to mark topics “resolved” on the right of this screen. You can test the option in the widget but it would probably look very weird in a menu.

To obtain a dropdown effect in your menu, you can use the language switcher as a sub item of another custom menu item. This works in themes which have implemented the dropdown effect for sub-items (for example Twenty Twelve). It doesn’t work in some other themes (for example Twenty Fifteen).

Good idea! Thanks very much for your suggestion of adding the switcher as a sub-item on menu. Although there is a problem of the name of the custom item, it fixes the problem of being too many selections on the menu.

Just a little question of multilingual, does Polylang generate a meta tag, og:locate? I had a problem on my running site using Beta Polylang, and doesnt have this on my test site using 1.7.1. More information, please visit this post

    Many thanks!

Yes. Polylang generates the og:locale tag when used in combination with Jetpack. It also generates og:locale:alternate when used in combination with Jetpack or Yoast SEO.
