Polly Using S3 When Not Enabled

I recently installed Amazon Polly on a site for a client of mine. We set up a brand new AWS account for the sole purpose of using Polly. We did NOT turn on the S3 storage option. However, within days we started having charges show up on the account for S3 usage beyond the free tier. I first contacted AWS Support, and they told me that it was due to “ListAllMyBucket” requests.
Since there are several thousand requests over the span of a day or two, I can only assume it is something to do with Polly.
Please help. Is this normal behavior?
