PODS Slowness

Do you have any other details about your site such as PHP version? Are you using Object Caching? Can you provide details from Pods Admin > Settings > Debug information section?

This is not normal, Pods is not heavy on it’s own.

It sounds like you might benefit from enabling object caching on your server or installing the Pods Alternative Cache plugin.

In terms of slow downs, there doesn’t seem to be anything sticking out at first glance that would cause this. How many Pods/Fields does it say you have in your Pods Admin > Edit Pods at the top right of the pod list table?
